FOP STEPS UP TO SUPPORT THE NATIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT MUSEUM

September 20, 2007

FOP As plans for the first-ever National Law Enforcement Museum continue to move forward, the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) has stepped to the plate to support the Museum's fundraising campaign, called "A Matter of Honor." Appearing before the FOP's 58th Biennial National Conference in Louisville (KY) in August, NLEOMF Chairman and CEO Craig W. Floyd thanked the organization for its generosity and encouraged even more members to get involved in helping to build the historic Museum in Washington, DC.

Mr. Floyd told the nearly 3,000 conference delegates that the number of FOP groups contributing to the "A Matter of Honor" campaign has grown to 45, with a combined contribution of $695,738. "That widespread level of support is a direct result of the leadership of National President Chuck Canterbury; Marcello Muzzatti, the FOP's representative on our Board of Directors; and so many other leaders of the FOP," Mr. Floyd said.

He especially thanked the six lodges that have donated $100,000 or more to date:

  • Arizona State Lodge
  • District of Columbia Lodge #1
  • Illinois State Lodge
  • Massachusetts State Lodge
  • New Jersey State Lodge
  • New York State Lodge

"I realize every group cannot give $100,000, but I hope you will consider doing whatever you can afford," Mr. Floyd said. "My personal goal is to have every law enforcement organization in the country invested in this historic and long-overdue project," he added.

To date, the "A Matter of Honor" campaign has collected more than $31 million toward its overall goal of $80 million. Nearly one-third of that total — approximately $10 million — has been donated by law enforcement officers and organizations.

Groundbreaking for the National Law Enforcement Museum is scheduled to take place in 2008. The Museum is expected to open in 2011. For more information and a virtual tour, visit www.LawEnforcementMuseum.org. To make a donation, call toll-free 1-866-446-NLEM (446-6536).
