Eleven officers from the Washington, DC/Baltimore region who died in the line of duty during 2006 were honored Friday morning during the 28th Annual Memorial Service for Law Enforcement Officers.

Sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary, Jerrard F. Young Lodge D.C. #1, the service was held at the Washington Area Law Enforcement Memorial Fountain outside Metropolitan Police Headquarters in Northwest, DC.

Survivors of the 11 officers were presented with memorial badges from FOP Lodge D.C. #1 President Lou Cannon, and they placed roses at the fountain in memory of their loved ones.

Guest speaker Sterling Spangler, President of the DC Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors, spoke of how National Police Week is a time to remember the fallen, but also to celebrate how those officers lived and the difference they made in the community.
