OFFICER PAUL TALTY New York City Police Department |
 | Clearly it was time to expand the Talty family home. Paul and his wife, Barbara, were already crowded with their two young children. Now a third child was on the way.
Paul Talty had been an electrician and carpenter before joining the NYPD in 1993. So he decided to add a second story to their modest home mostly himself, building after his shifts and on days off. The work was finished in time to welcome their new daughter, Kelly, into the world in August, 2001. |
| Less than one month later, Officer Talty was called to the World Trade Center. He was part of the NYPD's Emergency Services Unit, among the first responders to the terrorist attack. Like so many of his fellow officers that day, Officer Talty lost his life saving others. Little Kelly Talty will never know her father. But she will always know he was a true American hero. |
