SPECIAL AGENT LEONARD W. HATTON Federal Bureau of Investigation |
 | Leonard Hatton was no stranger to terrorism or to Osama bin Laden. His 16-year FBI career included investigations into the first World Trade Center attack in 1993, the 1998 bombings of our embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, and the attack on the USS Cole. |
Lenny was on his way to work on September 11 when he saw one of the Twin Towers on fire. He changed course and went to help. One survivor recalls being guided outside to safety by this hero, who then went right back in. The last anyone saw of him, he was leading people out of the smoke and darkness. "Lenny was at the World Trade Center saving lives, even as he sacrificed his own," said FBI Director Robert Mueller. "And in the process, he reminded us about what is so good and so right about America...."
The 45-year-old former Marine was a loving husband and proud father of four. Lenny also served his hometown as a volunteer firefighter, as his father had before him.
